Description

Introducing the Tulip Dress pattern!

The inspiration for the Tulip dress came from my desire to turn the Tulip Top into a dress! Originally I created it with the flared short skirt , and later with the gathered long skirt. Now both Tulip dress styles are combined into one sewing pattern!

The Tulip dress bodice was designed to be fitted at the bust with a waistline that curves around the ribs. When laced up at the sides, it provides some lift and structure in the bust, while both skirt options allow for ease in the waist and hip. The lace up sides also allow for easy adjustment for both comfort and fluctuating sizing. This feature makes the Tulip Dress great for layering!

The Tulip dress is offered in sizes XS-6XL with two fit versions based on bust size.
It is made with a clever construction to fully clean finish the upper bodice, topstitching included! A straight stitch machine and serger are used to make this style, though the side seams on the skirt can be adapted to have french seams if you don't have access to a serger.
The recommended sewing level for this pattern is Intermediate.

After 2 years of sewing this style myself and seeing it worn and loved by so many customers, I’m so excited to be able to share this style as a sewing pattern! I hope you enjoy sewing it as much as I do!

The pattern includes printable files for both A4/letter and A0 printing along with detailed instructions. A sew along video will be available in late Spring, 2025.

Fabric Recommendations

The Tulip dress can be made in a variety of fabrics!

Some recommendations for the dress with either the gathered or flared skirt include: light to mid-weight cotton or linen, silk noil or dupioni, lightweight denim. In addition, the flared skirt can also work with light to mid-weight wools, denim, cotton twill, corduroy, and upholstery fabrics.

It's recommended to line to bodice in a mid-heavy weight cotton twill or cotton canvas.

Fabric Requirements

Main Fabric
The Tulip Dress requires 1.5- 2.7 M for the gathered skirt version depending on fabric width and size made. For the flared skirt version, 1.4-2.4 M is required depending on fabric width and size made.

Bodice Lining
The Tulip dress requires 0.4-0.7M to line to bodice depending on the fabric width and size made.

Version A or Version B?

Subtract your full bust measurement from your under bust measurement to find the difference between the two. For a difference of under 6" or 15cm, choose Version A. For a difference of 6.25" or 16cm or more, choose Version B.
