Semi-Private Lesson: Thursday, January 9th

Semi-Private Lesson: Thursday, January 9th

About Semi-Private Lessons at The Sewing Club

Led by talented sewist and awesome person Andrea Mitchell, our semi-private lessons are designed to provide a space for people with varying skill levels to get project help that is more affordable than a private lesson, and less frustrating than trying to describe the issue and hoping it pops up on Youtube. This is your chance to make whichever project you'd like in our workshop space that includes computerized sewing machines, sergers, irons, and various tools for marking, measuring, and more.

Participants should bring a project that they'd like to get help starting, need some encouragement with, or a project with a particularly tricky bit that they would like help perfecting. These sessions will focus on construction techniques rather than pattern drafting and advanced pattern alterations (more on that soon!)

In a small group of up to 4 participants, you can get support on:

  • Sewing fundamentals and terminology
  • How to read a pattern & interpret instructions
  • Tips for cutting and marking your fabric
  • Sewing machine basics
  • Serger basics
  • More advanced techniques like zippers and buttons
  • More advanced finishing and seam techniques
  • And more!

Date, Time, and Location

Thursday, January 9th
5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Who should come?

  • Adults 16+
  • Beginners who are new to sewing and require guidance on the basics of sewing, or intermediate sewists that are taking on a new technique for the first time. If you're a seasoned sewist who is looking for a social atmosphere to work on your project, we'd love for you to come along too!

What is included and what should you bring?

Included in the session is use of:

  • A computerized Brother sewing machine per person
  • 2 Sergers for the group (serger thread is included)
  • Irons and assortment of ironing tools
  • Scissors, chalk, pins, and other necessities

Please bring or plan to buy anything you will to use during the workshop: sewing patterns, fabric, thread, zippers, buttons, etc. You will able to purchase anything you're missing from our shop.

Keep in mind that most of the fabric we sell shrinks when washed, so it’s best to purchase your fabric and wash it before you sew with it!

    Accessibility

While the building and workstations are wheelchair accessible, the washroom unfortunately is not. There is an accessible washroom in Hollywood park across the street.

We have machines with hand controls (no pedal required). Please let us know in the checkout notes if you require this type of machine so we can ensure it's set up for you.

If there's anything else we can do to accommodate you, please let us know in the checkout notes or contact us before the workshop.

    Cancellation Policy

This policy is effective for purchases made on or after April 8th, 2024.

Our workshops are held in small groups and usually sell out far in advance. It can be very difficult to fill a cancelled spot on short notice. In order to ensure we can continue offering small group sewing workshops, the following cancellation policy applies to all workshop purchases.

We understand people get sick, child care cancels, and other emergencies come up. We ask that you please read this policy before booking a workshop, and understand that we must adhere to it. Please be understanding of our limitations as a small, independently run business, and don't ask us to make an exception to our policy.

If you can provide over 48 hours notice:

If you need to cancel your spot and are able to give over 48 hours' notice, you will receive a digital store credit that can be used for a future workshop, to shop online, or to shop in person. Store credits never expire, and must be issued to the email used to book the workshop.

    To cancel, contact us.

If you cancel within 48 hours of the start time:

It is very difficult for us to fill workshop spots on short notice. If you cancel within 48 hours or do not show for the workshop, you are not eligible for a store credit, and you are not able to pick up workshop materials.

If you are able to find someone to take your place in the workshop, contact us and we can try to arrange that they take your place. This is not guaranteed, especially if they require any custom pattern adjustments.

    To cancel, contact us.

    Arriving Late

If you arrive one hour (60 minutes) or more after the scheduled workshop time, that will be considered a no-show, and you will not be able to join the workshop, receive a store credit, or a refund.

    Multi-Day Workshops

Partial refunds are not available if you can't finish your workshop. If you can't attend the remaining workshop dates, contact us and we can arrange for you to finish the project during a co-working session or take it home.

    Agreeing to this Policy

When you sign up for a workshop, there is a checkbox to acknowledge that you understand and agree to this policy that you are required to select in order to sign up for the workshop. By checking this box and signing up for the workshop, you are agreeing to this policy.
