What is Project Help Night?

Led by art therapist Mina Hiebert, our project help sessions are designed to provide a space for people who are new to sewing to get project help. Participants should bring a simple project to work on. Scroll down for some pattern recommendations!

In a small group of up to 4 participants, you can get support on:

  • Sewing fundamentals and terminology
  • How to read a pattern & follow the instructions
  • Sewing machine basics
  • Serger basics
  • Finishing techniques

This session is located in our shop at 1722 Lillian Road in Victoria.

Who should come?

  • Adults 16+
  • Beginners who are new to sewing and require guidance on the basics of sewing.

What should I work on?

These evening sessions are designed to provide you with the perfect environment to work on simple sewing projects, with a bit of guidance and encouragement when you need it.

    What is included and what should I bring?

    Included in the session is use of:

    • A computerized Brother sewing machine
    • Sergers (thread is included)
    • Irons
    • Scissors, chalk, pins, and other necessities

    Please bring or plan to buy anything you will to use during the workshop: sewing patterns, fabric, thread, zippers, buttons, etc.

    Keep in mind that most of the fabric we sell shrinks when washed, so it’s best to purchase your fabric and wash it before you sew with it!

    The Sewing Club is located at 1722 Lillian Road in Fairfield, Victoria, BC, Canada.

    There is street parking available out front and we have one parking spot directly beside the building that you're welcome to use while you shop.

    Accessibility

    While the building and workstations are wheelchair accessible, the washroom unfortunately is not. There is an accessible washroom in Hollywood park across the street.

    We have machines with hand controls (no pedal required). Please let us know in the checkout notes if you require this type of machine so we can ensure it's set up for you.

    If there's anything else we can do to accommodate you, please let us know in the checkout notes or contact us before the workshop.

    Cancellation Policy

    We do our best to be flexible and accommodating when your plans change, but as these are small group workshops that usually sell out far in advance, it can be difficult to fill a cancelled spot on short notice. 

    This policy is effective for purchases made on or after October 10, 2023. 

    Over one week from start time

    If you need to cancel your spot and are able to give over one week's notice, you will receive a full refund or store credit towards a future class.

    To cancel, contact us and let us know if you would like a refund or a store credit. Store credits never expire and can be used for anything online or in-store.

    Between one week and 48 hours from start time

    If you need to cancel your spot and are able to give over 48 hours' notice, you will receive a store credit that can be used for a future workshop, to shop online, or in person. Store credits never expire.

    Under 48 hours from start time

    It is very difficult for us to fill workshop spots on short notice. If you cancel within 48 hours or do not show for the workshop, you are not eligible for a refund or credit, and you are not able to pick up workshop materials.

    If you are able to find someone to take your place in the workshop, contact us and we can try to arrange that they take your place. This is not guaranteed, especially if they require any custom pattern adjustments.

    Multi-Day Workshops

    Partial refunds are not available if you can't finish your workshop. If you can't attend the remaining workshop dates, contact us and we can arrange for you to finish the project during a co-working session or take it home.
